SELF-HELP ENTERPRISES (SHE) is a nonprofit community development organization founded in 1965 to help low income families of California's San Joaquin Valley improve their living conditions. Beginning with owner built mutual self-help housing as a way to build community and promote homeownership, SHE has grown to provide rehabilitation and weatherization repairs, develop water and sewer infrastructure in rural communities, build and sustain affordable rental housing, and teach classes in homebuyer education for first-time buyers.
